For more than 20 years I&#039;ve been involved with research on Jas. Reese Europe, his orchestra, and the Clef Club. In 2003 I curated/produced a new recording of Europe&#039;s (with many of the Castle dances) music from original orchestrations for New World Records (here&#039;s the link: http://www.paragonragtime.com/blackmanhattandisc.html). 

There is surviving film footage of the Castles dancing c.1914. I&#039;ve watched it at the New York Public Library. It looks as if some of these frames from the book were taken from this footage.
